EP Cyclists generally offers four rides per week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays) and additional rides on certain holidays.
We ride in a “Peloton” type group formation with typically two pace lines in three ability groups with a leaderless option for most rides.
- Group CAT A 20: Advanced group with averages between 18-22 miles per hour on flat ground. General overall average is 20 mph. This group is generally comprised of more experienced cyclists who ride in closer Peloton formations and are expected to be self sufficient. Most rides are typically considered “drop” rides if the cyclist has minor mechanical issues or cannot maintain the pace of the group.
- Group CAT B 18: Intermediate to advanced group with averages between 16-20 miles per hour on flat ground. General overall average is 18 mph. This group is comprised of cyclists who ride in less tightly spaced lines. Most rides are considered non-drop, where ride leaders will remain with cyclists who have mechanical problems.
- Group CAT C 16: Intermediate group with averages between 14-18 miles per hour on flat ground. General overall average is 16 mph. This group is comprised of cyclists who ride in less tightly spaced lines. Most rides are considered non-drop, where ride leaders will remain with cyclists who have technical problems and will regroup more frequently.
- Group CAT D: Beginner and Social Fun group with averages up to 16 miles per hour on flat ground. General overall average is typically 12-15 mph. This group is comprised of newer and more socially focused cyclists with loosely spaced lines with many stops. All rides are considered non-drop, where ride leaders will remain with cyclists at all times.
- Leaderless: Advanced group with higher averages 22 and more miles per hour on flat ground. These groups will typically not have a ride leader accompany them, and all are drop rides.
Rides are subject to change based on weather conditions and numbers/capabilities of rider’s participation. Ride leaders will designate ride options as necessary based on road constructions or hazards.
Cyclists are required to bring their standard safety gear for all rides. These include helmets, cycling apparel, water, spare tubes and tools for minor repairs, front and rear lights.
Some of our routes take us through Fort Bliss, which requires approved access control. Cyclists can obtain passes at the Fort Bliss Visitor’s Center. Those cyclists that show up without a valid pass/ID will not be allowed to continue the route on post!
